THE VILLAGE BICYCLE CLUB
July 12, 2010 MINUTES

The July 12, 2010 meeting of The Village Bicycle Club was called to order by our president, Bob Kopp, followed by The Pledge of Allegiance.

Welcome:
Report of Officers:
Vice Pres: No report.
No Membership or Secretary reports were available.
Treasurer: $1627.55 in Treasury.

Program Chair: No programs scheduled for August.
Pat Roberts would like help and suggestions for programs for the upcoming meetings.

She has some ideas:
1.) A Dermatologist to discuss skin cancer dangers.
2.) Don Wilson on his cross country bike trip from the Pacific to Atlantic
3.) CPR and the location of deliberators throughout The Villages
E-Mail your ideas to Pat at: rrobertsfl@embarqmail.com

Riders have had a problem with dehydration during the high humidity and high temperature rides. It was suggested that we check the Club website for ideas on hydration. It was also suggested we hydrate before riding. We should ride with a partner and not leave anyone behind. If you are last on the ride, perform as a sweep and watch out for fellow riders. You do not realize you have a problem until it is too late, and then you need help.

Rides and Safety:
The 2011 bike/barge trip to Belgium has 22 people signed up as of this meeting. There is a waiting list of 2 couples. If you wish to be added to the wait list, please call Landseair. It is most likely there will be cancellations as we have over a year before the trip.

There was a show of interest in an early October trip to Silver Comet Trail close to Atlanta. This is in the planning stage.

Marge Copp is planning a Golf/Picnic on September 15. The Golf will be at Bacall starting at about 1:00pm (first 32 golfers). The Picnic will follow at about 3:00pm. Picnic will be for non golfers also. We will have Honey Baked Ham Sandwiches including drink. This worked out well the last time. The cost will be $7.00 per person. A vote was taken and seconded that the club donate $1.00 per person toward the lunch. EMail Marge at: bobnmarge2078@yahoo.com

Russ will work with The Village maps to develop new bike routes.

The meeting was adjourned, and refreshments were served.

NOTE: Please remember that our monthly meetings will be on the second Monday of each month at La Hacienda Recreation Center.
